How a sustainable holiday retreat runs

Ever wondered how a sustainable award winning holiday retreat runs from day to day?

At Tiny Homes Holidays we are all about making the world a greener place and a lot goes on behind the scenes to make your stay cosy and comfortable.

Our day starts by making sure the solar energy systems are running to order,  on brighter days the batteries store enough energy to keep the homes lit and power your phones. We stock up the log fires and the log bins for the guests so they can have access to everything they need .

We check that all is working with the Reed bed water filtration system, our way of processing waste water in the most eco friendly way without harsh chemicals or energy guzzling machines. It’s important no strong chemicals go into our waste water because it could damage the Reed beds that are growing behind the homes.

We deep clean the homes using eco friendly cleaning products which are gentle on the environment. The compost toilets are emptied and cleaned and the eco friendly toilet paper is replenished. Everyone always asks about the toilets!! Hey it’s no-ones favourite job to service them but everyone here from the owner to the summer staff take a turn – and it’s really not that bad …. Plus we all enjoy the gorgeous flowers we can grow with the compost!

The soaps and detergents are refilled and the organic tea, and home baked treats put out for the guests (Beckie Brownies get rave reviews!).

Fresh seasonal flowers are handpicked and placed in the homes. Wild flowers from the meadow and home grown blooms are used in spring and summer, then rustic leaves in autumn. These little touches are important to us because they bring a sense of nature inside without the waste of imported florals.

Before check in we make sure the recycling bins are organised, sorted and emptied as necessary.

Running Tiny Homes holidays isn’t just about providing a place to stay it’s about proving sustainability and comfort can go hand in hand.

So next time you stay know that every detail from the soaps to the solar panels is carefully chosen to make your stay greener, cleaner and totally relaxing.
