‘Making a mark’ accessible art with Susan Milne
SUSAN MILNE is an artist with a successful studio practice near Hay- on- Wye in Wales. Her work derives from the landscape. She works in her garden studio beside a mill stream and in her Shepherd’s Hut in the middle of the Black Mountains.
She is an experienced art teacher and has worked in art and design education with adult, specialist education, secondary, and tertiary education. Since retiring as senior lecturer from the University of Greenwich she has developed a programme of art workshops for people with mental and physical disabilities.
Her lottery funded Printmaking Workshops have been running in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire since 2014 and have proved to be very successful in helping people living with problems associated with memory and dementia.
CREATE, learn a NEW SKILL, and re-energise the mind. Susan and her assistant will be running 3 printmaking workshops especially designed for people living with dementia and memory difficulties, and their carers.
These practical workshops will run in three hour sessions over three days in our on site studio building, and will include introductions to printmaking, looking at the work of different artists and practical, creative time, making prints using a printing press.
Different simple printmaking techniques will be explored and adapted to suit the needs of individual guests.
The sessions allow time for socialising and meeting new people over a cup of coffee!
As this will be a small group (no more than 9 people total) it will enable all participants, the carers and the cared for, time to develop printmaking at their own pace.
