Two day introduction to Shibori Techniques and Indigo

May 17, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - May 20, 2019 @ 11:00 am

Carol Anne Eades

About your tutor – Carol Anne Eades

Following a career in teaching Art and Design as a Textiles specialist initially to adults and later to children with profound and multiple learning difficulties I am now specialising in natural dyeing techniques including Indigo and Rust together with Eco printing. These processes combine print and stitch before and after the dyeing process and are all on natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool and silk.
Shibori techniques and Sashiko are used to express my continually evolving ideas. I have been strongly influenced by travels to East Asia and combine these with ideas from daily walks along the coastline of the Isle of Wight.
After my recent Residency at Ventnor Botanic Gardens in 2017 I  further developed my work in natural dyeing using some of the many varieties of Eucalyptus growing in the Gardens. These have recently been on exhibit as part of “Bloom’ at Quay Arts Centre in Newport on the isle of Wight. This year as part of the Ryde Arts festival I am working as joint Artist in Residence to develop a Textile Artwork for the library using Indigo and Rust which based on the most recent census on the Isle of Wight
I have had work included in exhibitions at Ventnor Botanic Gardens and Quay Arts, Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery, Salisbury Art Centre and was recently short listed for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition both in London and Bristol
